Why holidays are the hardest weeks to find a sitter

Everyone travels at the same time. Kennels fill up, sitters get booked, and the pets left at home deal with guests, noise and broken routines.

Holiday pet sitting is the same careful care Hope’s team gives all year, planned earlier and with a few extra steps for the things that only happen on holidays.

Dates book up early

Thanksgiving, Christmas and spring break fill first. Reaching out two to four weeks ahead gives you the best chance.

Fireworks scare pets

July 4th and New Year’s Eve are loud. Many dogs pace, hide or try to bolt when they hear them.

Routines slip

Meals and medication times drift when a house is busy. A written care plan keeps them on schedule.

Packages pile up on the porch in December. Your sitter brings them in and keeps lights on in the evening.

From families who travel

Hope took exceptional care of our pets and home while we were away. She was dependable, trustworthy, and kept us updated with messages and photos, which gave us complete peace of mind.

How holiday booking works

Plan it early, then enjoy your trip

Holiday sits follow the same steps as any booking. The difference is timing.

  1. Reach out early

Send your dates two to four weeks ahead, or sooner for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Call, text or use the form below.

  2. Meet at the walkthrough

Hope or one of her sitters visits your home, meets your pets and writes the care plan with you: meals, medication schedules, walks, quirks and vet contacts. You’ll know ahead of time who’s staying with your pets.

  3. Settle the holiday details

Note fireworks nights, guests or deliveries you’re expecting, and anything your pets find stressful.

  4. Get daily updates

At least one text and photo every day you’re away. First-time clients get a morning and an evening update.

Most holiday trips are covered with overnight pet sitting, so your pets aren’t alone through long winter nights.

The busiest weeks of the year

These dates book first. Two to four weeks of notice is a good rule; earlier is better.

  • Thanksgiving week
  • Christmas and the week after
  • New Year’s Eve
  • Spring break
  • July 4th

Overnights are $120 a night for one dog, and new clients get their first stay at $100 a night. Your exact holiday rate is confirmed at the free walkthrough, before you book anything.

A quiet plan for fireworks nights

On July 4th and New Year’s Eve, your sitter plans the evening around the noise.

  • Last walk before dark, on leash
  • Windows closed, curtains drawn
  • White noise or the TV on low
  • Doors and gates checked twice

Anxious, senior and special-needs pets get extra attention on these nights.

Holiday pet sitting questions

How far ahead should I book holiday pet sitting?

Two to four weeks ahead is best, and earlier for Thanksgiving and Christmas. If your plans change late, reach out anyway and Hope will tell you honestly if she can help.

Do you work on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s?

Yes. Holidays are when families travel most, so they’re some of the busiest days of the year. Booking early is the best way to get your dates.

How much does holiday pet sitting cost?

Overnights are $120 a night for one dog, and new clients get their first stay at $100 a night. Your exact rate for holiday dates is confirmed at the free walkthrough, before you book.

My dog is scared of fireworks. What will you do?

Your sitter walks your dog before dark, keeps windows closed and curtains drawn, and runs white noise or the TV. Doors and gates are checked twice. Tell Hope what usually helps your dog and it goes in the care plan.

Can you bring in packages and keep the house looking lived in?

Yes. On overnights your sitter brings in mail and packages, waters plants, turns lights on and off, and takes out the trash.
