Why small animals need a careful sitter

A bird, a fish tank or a reptile enclosure runs on details. The right food, the right amount, the right light and heat at the right times.

Most pet sitters are thinking about the dog. Hope adds your other animals to the same written care plan, so nothing is left to guesswork or memory while you’re away.

Feeding done exactly

Too much food can foul a tank. Too little worries everyone. Amounts and days go into the care plan.

Light and heat checked

Heat lamps, tank lights and timers are checked on each visit, the way you showed them at the walkthrough.

Handling only if you want it

Some animals should be left alone. If yours should be handled, you show your sitter how. If not, nobody will.

Problems reported right away

A cloudy tank, a bird that isn’t eating, a lamp that’s out. You hear about it the same day, not when you get home.

What households with more than one pet say

Hope took exceptional care of our pets and home while we were away. She was dependable, trustworthy, and kept us updated with messages and photos, which gave us complete peace of mind.

How the add-on works

Your instructions, followed on every visit

Small-animal care is added to an overnight stay or a drop-in visit you’re already booking. Here’s how it comes together.

  1. Show

At the free walkthrough, show Hope or one of her sitters the food, the feeding amounts, the lights, the heat and anything you check each day.

  2. Write

Everything goes into the written care plan, next to your dog’s or cat’s routine, with your vet’s contact details.

  3. Care

On each visit or overnight, your sitter feeds, refreshes water where needed and checks the setup, following the plan exactly.

  4. Report

You get a text and photo after every drop-in and at least once a day on overnights. Anything unusual, you hear about right away.

If your animal needs something Hope isn’t comfortable doing, she’ll tell you honestly at the walkthrough, before you book.

What Hope’s team can look after

  • Feeding on your schedule
  • Fresh water and bowls
  • Heat lamp and light checks
  • Timers checked each visit
  • Covering a cage at night, if you do
  • Medication schedules

Tank cleaning, cage cleaning and handling are done only as your care plan says.

How it’s priced

Birds, fish and reptiles are an add-on to a drop-in visit or an overnight, not a separate trip. Overnights are $120 a night for one dog ($100 a night for a new client’s first stay), and Hope confirms the full rate for your household at the free walkthrough, before you book anything.

Have a pet with medical needs too? Hope specializes in blind and deaf dogs, diabetic pets, pets with cancer and feral cats.

Bird, fish and reptile questions

Can I book care just for my bird, fish or reptile?

Small-animal care is offered as an add-on to a drop-in visit or an overnight. If your household only has a bird, fish or reptile, call or text Hope and she’ll tell you what she can do.

What does the add-on include?

Feeding, fresh water and checks on lights, heat lamps and timers, done exactly as you show them at the walkthrough. Cleaning and handling are done only if your care plan calls for them.

Will my sitter handle my bird or reptile?

Only if you want them to and show them how. Many small animals are better left in their enclosure while their owners are away, and that’s fine.

What if something looks wrong with the tank or enclosure?

Hope contacts you right away with a photo and a description, and follows the plan you agreed on, including your vet’s details if needed.

My reptile or bird takes medication. Is that okay?

Medication schedules can go into the written care plan. Tell Hope exactly what your animal needs at the walkthrough and she’ll tell you honestly what she can do.
