Why overnights suit Boulder best

Of the eight towns Hope covers, Boulder is the longest drive from her Westminster home. Staying over turns that distance into a non-issue.

Several quick trips a day across US 36 would mean less time with your pets and more time in the car. When your sitter sleeps at your place in Mapleton Hill, the Newlands or out east near Valmont, they’re already there for dinner, the late potty break and the morning walk.

Long gaps between visits

Short check-ins from across the county leave a pet alone most of the evening and all night. A stay closes those gaps.

Conference and research travel

Plenty of Boulder households work at CU or the labs and leave for a week at a time. Long trips are where overnights make the most sense.

Summer storms at night

Afternoon thunderstorms roll off the foothills most summers. A dog afraid of thunder has company in the house when one hits after dark.

A house that looks empty

Your sitter brings in mail and packages, waters plants, turns lights on and off and puts the trash out, so the place looks lived in.

One drive in, then your sitter stays

Because your sitter isn’t commuting back and forth, the whole stay runs from your house and your plan.

  1. Meet

Hope or one of her sitters visits your Boulder home for free, meets each pet and notes parking, keys, the alarm and any gate or side door.

  2. Write

Feeding times, medication schedules, which trails your dog is allowed on, whether your dog has a Voice and Sight tag, and your chosen emergency hospital go into the care plan.

  3. Settle in

Your sitter, someone you’ll know by name ahead of time, arrives before your pets’ dinner, does a photo walkthrough of the house and stays every night you’re away. A text and photo come at least once a day.

  4. Hand over

On your last day they clean the spaces they used, strip the bed, photograph the house again and send a short wrap-up.

  • Valmont or East Boulder Dog Park, only if you say yes
  • VEG or Colorado Animal Specialty and Emergency for after-hours trouble
  • Shorter, earlier walks on hot afternoons and windy days
  • Your trash, recycling and compost day

Boulder overnight questions

How is a Boulder overnight priced?

One dog is $120 a night, and a new client’s first stay is $100 a night. The house sitting cost calculator covers other pets and add-ons.

Why does Hope mostly do overnights in Boulder?

Boulder is the far end of her service area. Staying the night means your pets get their sitter’s full attention from evening to morning instead of short stops between drives.

Can my sitter take my tagged dog off leash on Open Space trails?

Under the city’s rules, every person who has a dog off leash on Open Space must complete the Voice and Sight class, not just the dog’s owner. Plan on leashed walks while you’re away, on the routes listed in the care plan.

What if my pet needs a vet in the middle of the night?

Your sitter calls you first. The care plan names the 24-hour hospital you prefer, such as VEG or Colorado Animal Specialty and Emergency in Boulder, along with your regular vet.

Do Boulder overnights cover cats and small animals too?

Yes. Cats, including shy and feral cats, are welcome, and fish, birds and reptiles can be added to the stay.
